Juárez needs your creative leadership now! Several job requests
are open, so please keep reading to see if the Lord of the Harvest is
calling you to this important city
Mexico is at a crossroads -- the opportunity exists now to make an eternal
impact for Christ. Even more, Juárez and the other Mexican megacities
hold an important key to reaching not only this country, but also impacting
much of North and Central America. We never know how long this window
of opportunity will last. Now is the time to act! Be a part of our megacities'
team!
Juárez is a strategic city located at the center point of the Mexico/US
border. Juárez shares the border with El Paso, Texas. Population
estimates range from 1.3 million to 3 million. The exact number is very
hard to know due to migratory patterns along the border. The border
megacities have very unique circumstances due to the proximity to the
US. Crime is a major concern as drug traffic wars continue.
The climate in the city can be extreme, but low humidity in the summer
makes the heat bearable. The winters are quite cold and snow is not
uncommon. It may take a little time to acclimate to the weather. 'Swamp'
coolers are used to cool the air in homes. A/C units are impractical
because of the higher electric costs generated by such units. At times the
wind blowing through the nearby mountain passes produces heavy dust in
the air. Excellent healthcare is available
As it is within all the megacities of Mexico, ample shopping is available. US
style malls and discount stores are available, i.e., SAMS, Wal-Mart, Home
Depot, and a myriad of excellent national stores. Almost everything is
available at 10-30% more than US prices.
Professionals wear suits, but most of the population dresses informally, yet
neatly. Men rarely wear shorts, except in the park or while playing sports.
Women tend to wear slacks or dresses and never shorts. A neat and kept
appearance is expected from the missionary. A mission vehicle will be
provided. Public transportation is good, reliable, and inexpensive.
Between 4% and 6% know Christ at this time. Some existing churches
show traditionalistic tendencies that inhibit the kind of multiplication and
growth necessary to reach Juárez.
The most exciting aspect of this ministry is that responsiveness in the
newly established areas of the city can be high when the time is taken to
present clear biblical messages. Newer “cell churches” are experiencing
solid growth, and our team is leading in the planting of the first house
churches.
Additional Critical Information:
To excel at this job, the missionary should exhibit these characteristics
(among others):
- Have a strong personal spiritual life and commitment to the vision
and to prayer.
- Be intensely interested in improving language skills (i.e. Spanish).
- Be flexible, able to work in chaos!
- Have the ability to stay focused on the main task.
- Know when to say "no" to people or things that are off-task.
- Do nothing to create unhealthy dependencies among our national
brothers.
- Be a lifelong learner -- there is much to learn about cell and house
church strategy
